I was recently named the new America editor, a step up from my previous role as the deputy America editor… I was looking through my 2016 notes from the Diverse Future Initiative and came across an exercise [you] had us do, laying out our career vision. Amazingly, I accomplished almost every step in my 5-year plan to a "T", concluding with "receive a promotion to America editor on the national desk, leading enterprise and expansion of coverage across the 50 states." I have [your] encouragement and guidance in part to thank for this and want to make sure [you] knew…
The Diverse Future is designed to build a pipeline of senior executives of color. We assemble some of the most accomplished professionals as instructors and mentors, exploring topics that prepare participants to make a difference within their own firms, and beyond, as they rise to leadership positions. At our exclusive week-long retreats, attendees receive instruction from world-class leaders and Harvard Business School professors, participate in off-the-record panels with special guests, create career plans, fine-tune important skills, and share meals and conversation with potential mentors at the highest level of their businesses, along with their cohort of professional peers.

A partnership with the Arthur W. Page Society, The Diverse Future - Communications offers rising communications executives of color an opportunity to explore topics that prepare them to make a difference within their own firms and beyond, as they climb to leadership positions. As businesses operate in a global ecosystem, it is critical for them to understand and reflect diverse perspectives. Greater focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) within corporate communications teams, especially at the higher levels, is vital to the future of the profession and its businesses.
Learn MoreNews and information remain the lifeblood of American democracy; media organizations are one of the mirrors by which the nation sees its challenges, opportunities, and future. A lack of diversity in media management has sometimes led to biased and inaccurate coverage of communities of color. In addition, as U.S. demographics change, news outlets need multicultural decision-makers to remain financially robust and socially relevant. The Diverse Future - News is committed to addressing these challenges by training and promoting executives and journalists of color to prepare them for leadership roles within the industry.
Learn MoreThe Diverse Future works directly with participants beyond the week-long retreat, providing career coaching, organizing alumni events, facilitating mentor and mentee relationships, and acting as an ongoing and ever-strengthening professional network for people of color in the media and communications industries.
